Runnin' Down A Dream

I am grasping at functionality this morning with the help of my friend Coffee because Tom Petty spent last night melting my face. Luckily I wore two pairs of socks, because ol Thomas rocked the first pair right off. Pouring rain, drunk hippies and the opening act of Steve Winwood couldn't stop the onslaught of Rock - and now my Monday morning is like an episode of The Hills - confusing and painful. But the concert did provide some scientific discoveries for me:

Everyone likes Tom Petty.

Tom Petty is the musical currency of America.

Do any of you not like Tom Petty? I want to know. I don't mean you have to love Tom Petty, or even own Tom Petty albums - but does anyone out there actually dislike his music? I have met people who don't like The Beatles. I have also met people who didn't like The Rolling Stones (though don't ask me to name them because they are not dead to me) but I have never in my 24 years and 358 days met someone who didn't like Tom Petty.

Feel free to answer, if you don't like Tom I need to know to complete my research. I promise I won't make fun of you, Idiot.

(Ok you aren't an idiot for not liking Tom Petty - I might be a little dramatic. Please forgive me. While forgiving - check out the poll in the post below - at last count Lou Bega and Sisqo are having an all out battle for worst song ever. It's like Bum Fights but with more VH1.)

Nobody doesn't like Tom.

I've also met people who don't like The Stones or The Beatles. I too was baffled.

You've never met someone who didn't like Tom Petty?

Where did you look...your closet?

I actually think I'd rather listen to Roseanne Barr sing the National Anthem over and over again then listen to "Free Fallin'" once.

Unless he free-fell onto a sharp object and tore out his larynx.

THEN I'd listen.

I hate Tom Petty.

I also don't like The Beatles and The Stones.

Or America, at least that's what people tell me.

I don't like the Rolling Stones so throw me in that mix.

Let's talk about Steve Winwood! Screw this Petty character. Higher love?

Yes and Yes.

So the takeaway from this post is that your birthday is in a week?

Tom Petty's name should only be said with the words "American Rocker" said right afterword. Same for Bob Seger.

Deutlich - I have 3 in the span of a week - I love it.

Maiden Metallurgist - People is idiots.

Moooooog35 - haha damn you and your hilarious comebacks. Free Fallin can be a bit cheesy but "American Girl" and "Refugee" are damn good tunes.

Surviving Myself - TERRORIST!

RS27 - it rained the entire show and I kept singing "Bring me a dier love" to the amusement of no one but myself.

Emma - glad someone noticed that. Feel free to buy me something pretty.

Give 'Em Hell Harry - kind of like how my name should be immediately followed by "World Famous Heartthrob"?

so i went to a TP concert a few years ago and i'm pretty sure my life was changed for the better considering all that great music, booze, drugs, and obscene amount of pee that was involved.

you know i'm not anti petty but i don't think i would seek him out ya know.

i have been know to tap my toes on a few occasions to his tunes, he did put on one hell of a super bowl show last year though.

Petty's the best on the planet. His drummer gave me his drum stcks at the end of the last concert of his I went to. No one's better- just check out the number of badass tunes on his albums that aren't being ridiculously overplayed on the radio.

I love Tom Petty. I always manage to hear Free Fallin when I'm drunk and at the bar or club. The guys I'm with always sing along about Free Ballin, I hang with cool people.

Please don't kill me. Who is Tom Petty and what does he sing? Apparently, I've been living under a rock all this time. Unless he's the guy who sings the very, very annoying "Free Falling".

Just once- once I tell you- I accidentally twisted the lyrics and sang,
"She's standin' down in Market Square,
There's pigeons in her underwear"

and now I can't stop.
I kind of like it better though ;-)
