What's In A Name?

I have somewhere between 2-3 million nicknames. Anything from Nom to Narm to PheNomina to Nook to “Hey there, Handsome”. Most of my nicknames are derived from my last name of Nomina (there was a short period where calling me Jeffrey Dahmer became popular, thankfully people stuck with the cannibalistic murderer and never shortened it to Dom for the chef Dom Deluise – that would have been embarrassing!)

People also love to put my name into songs. LL Cool J’s “Something Like A Phenomenon” becomes “Something Like A Jeff Nomina”. The Na-Na-Na’s of Hey Jude become Nomina’s. My personal favorite – “Make ‘Em Say Ugh – Jeff Nomina!”

In grade school some kids even made a song –

“It’s Jeff Nomina -
He’s a phenomenon.
It’s Jeff Nomina -
It goes on and on and on and on…”

Rinse and repeat first verse.

You can imagine my delight when last week BloggingJason shot me an email with the new greatest nickname of all time – Omnomnomnom. For those of you who spend less than 25% of your daylight hours eating – quit judging me. Also, Omnomnomnom is the noise we fatties make while eating. It is like our personal them song (titled: Shame).

Ok – kinda funny. We laughed - though there was no knee slapping. Then he sent me this link.

Consider these knees slapped.

Anything involving Master P ultimately trumps everything else, so I still think “Make ‘Em Say Ugh – Jeff Nomina!” is the best.

The omnomnom site is the BEST. My co-workers and I look at it whenever we're bored. Whenever I think of food I want, I typically use that phrase, such as: "mmm, pizza..omnomnom..."

Not gonna lie, phenomina is still hilarious to me.

As for nicknames, when taking the SAT way back in high school, I was to put the first four letters of my last name, and then my first and middle initials. That created: Gibals. Seriously. I never lived that down.

lol!

However, when I think "Nom," I think "Nom nom nom," which implies "lolcat."

But I've learned to make that separation.

It took me a few days to realize that the "Nom" and "Narm" were the same person.

What about the manamana song from The Muppets? That's catchy!

Were Paul Prudhomme and Dom Deluise separated at birth?

LOL <--- yeah, i threw it.

i just said omnomnomnom, out loud to myself and laughed out loud at the sound of it.

i also have a couple of songs my friend put my name into.

for example, r kelly's song "fiesta"? turns into - alexa, alexa. alexa, alexa.

ever heard of sweet melissa? from now on you will think of it as sweet alexa.

People insert my name into songs all the time!

For example, here's Britney Spears's "Stronger."

"Now I'm stronger than yesterday."
"Now I'm stronger than Emma Chace."

You have a great last name for making nicknames out of. Thank your grandchildren-obsessed parents!

I don't know about any of that. I never realized how many songs you could rhyme your last name with.

Julie Gong - I think a knee should be slapped at least once a day - glad you got two out today.

Surviving Myself - especially when you see my redneck friends and I trying to rap

Lauren - mine is Nomije. Yes. My middle name is Elmer.

Rachel - I have blogging schizophrenia - I have multiple identities

Maiden Mettalurgist - there are days you DO get stuff done? You are one up on me.

Allie-Gator - The nickname Allie-Gator is an awesome nickname!

Lacochran - that is my official theme song! People sing that to me constantly, Chicks dig muppets.

rs27 - How about Outkast and "Noms Over Baghdad"

Alexa - I love that Sweet Melissa song - and I am sure will be substituting "Alexa" the same way I can't help but say "Tony Danza" in "Tiny Dancer"

Emma - How about Van Morrison's "Caravan" with him saying "Emma Rose" - you can change it to Emma Chase

Allison - I expect you to be singing these to me tomorrow at the office

I've actually decided to eat more, just so I can say omnomnomnom.
